Agronomy and Weed Control

The AHRI Agronomy team is led by Dr Mike Ashworth, with the help of Research Associate Dr Yaseen Khalil, Research Officer Roberto Lujan Rocha and Technical Officer Shane Baxter.

The agronomy team conducts field and lab trials to develop farming systems strategies to enhance weed-competitiveness of crops, understand weed life cycle adaptations, optimise and prolong the utility of pre and post-emergent herbicides, find best management practices for mapping weeds through remote-sensing and site-specific technology and to develop farming systems with the objective of reducing herbicide dependency.

Here is a recent video from GRDC with Dr Mike Ashworth. Mike explores the evolution of annual ryegrass and wild radish in our cropping systems and how growers can use this information to make strategic weed management decisions.
