Given the additional costs associated with managing herbicide resistant weeds, it is imperative that we understand the incidence and extent of resistance to inform future research and influence weed management decisions.
This project follows up multiple years of random weed surveys across Australia’s grain growing regions and delivers knowledge on the extent of herbicide resistance and the rate of increase in comparison to previous survey results. A partnership between Charles Sturt University, the University of Adelaide, AHRI at UWA, Queensland DPIRD and University of Sydney, these teams deliver a comprehensive area-wide weed survey over a four year time period where Year 1 is collection of seeds, Years 2 and 3 plants are screened for multiple herbicides and Year 4 the results are communicated to industry and growers.
This project is managed by Dr John Broster, CSU, Dr Christopher Preston UA, Dr Mechelle Owen UWA, Dr Michael Walsh CSU and Dr Michael Widderick Qld DPIRD.
